Hidari Taisho commissions Akuemon, an outcast, to hunt down 1000 foxes as a means to conquer the country. This task is assigned to Akuemon due to his reputation. A female fox, disguised as Akuemon's wife, arrives at his home in response to the hunt, and a connection develops between Akuemon and the fox as she grapples with sorrow over the loss of her comrades.
