The International Scientific Organization (ISO) was formed to address environmental issues worldwide. However, an organization known as Gallactor, led by Generalissimo X from outer space, seeks global domination by infiltrating the ISO. ISO's Dr. Nambu selects five young recruits, Ken, Joe, Jun, Jinpei, and Ryu, to form the Gatchaman team, known as the Science Commandos. Each member has unique abilities and uses advanced aircraft, the Phoenix, equipped with a transformation ability that enables it to shoot a powerful energy beam.
