The story takes place in Acassi, a seaside town where octopus is a prized food item. However, eating octopus has unintended consequences, as it causes the consumer to speak Takogo, the language of the octopus. Lina, Gourry, Amelia, Zelgadiss, and Xelloss all fall victim to this curse, while the town's octopi seek to enlist the help of a powerful mazoku to eliminate the humans.
