Keita Amano, an ordinary primary school student, stumbles upon an ancient capsule in a forest while exploring. This encounter sets free Whisper, a ghost-like creature imprisoned for 190 years. Keita rewards Whisper with his freedom and becomes his guardian against supernatural forces. They use a special Youkai Watch to identify and interact with other Youkai, resolving the trouble they cause, and learning valuable life lessons in the process.
