Jarinko Chie is a 1981 film directed by Isao Takahata, based on Etsumi Haruki's popular manga. The story revolves around Chie, a 10-year-old girl from an Osaka family who is often referred to as "Japan's most unfortunate girl." Chie's family is struggling, with her father unemployed and her parents separated; however, she finds ways to keep her family's diner running.
